Pot.
Crock Pot.
Also known as a slow cooker, a crock pot is an electric counter-top cooking appliance that cooks meals at low heat over a long period of time. It’s ideal for soups, stews, and various other tasty dishes that require a significant amount of time to develop flavour and great texture.
I call it “the magical electro-bucket of happiness”, as anything you toss into that bad boy turns magically delicious after X number of hours simmering away merrily. You want a spectacular breakfast casserole but don’t want to get up at the crack of dawn to cook? Not a problem: just chuck grated potato, onions, eggs, cheddar, some salsa, salt, and pepper in there before you go to bed, set the timer, and BLAM—you’ll wake up to a steaming mess of “OMG I can’t stop shoveling this into my gaping maw”.
Same goes for suppers: if you don’t want to keep a stove-top element on all day, running to stir a pot of soup or stew every 15 minutes, toss all the necessary ingredients in sometime in the morning, and by suppertime, you’ll have a hot pot of heaven just waiting to be scooped into. It doesn’t seem to matter what you put into a crock pot—the end result always seems to be absolute deliciousness.
I’m eager to use mine to make a pumpkin-spice gluten-free tea bread, but in the meantime, I’ve been enjoying everything from steel-cut oatmeal with fruit and nuts to spicy tomato-lentil soup.
